The
Cornwall Cricket Club
Inc was formed in 1989 after the amalgamation
of the Old Boys Hastings and the Whakatu Mahora
Cricket Clubs. Both clubs have origins going
back to 1901.
The
amalgamation took place to provide one strong
cricket club in Hastings. It is the only Premier
Cricket Club in Hastings City.
The
club is based at Cornwall Park, and it is here
that we have our Pavilion. Built in 1996 this
modern building is an asset to our club members,
to the game of cricket and to the community
of Hastings.
Some
of our club members have achieved Top Level
National honours. Mark Greatbatch, Ian Smith
and Andrew Penn in cricket and Taine Randell
and Danny Lee in Rugby, with many other club
members gaining New Zealand age group, National
First Class - mainly Central Districts, Hawke’s
Bay and District Honours.
We
take pride in our commitment as a club to nurture
our young cricketers. Many talented cricketers
have moved into a successful first class career.
One
of our women cricketers, Erin McDonald, played
for the NZ Women's team when it won The World
Cup in 2000. More recently Sarah McGlashan has
represented the NZ National team and Zara McWilliams
and Aroha Northover have been selected in NZ
A.
Michael Taiaroa and Brad Patton have represented
New Zealand in the under 19 age group. Peter
McGlashen has represented New Zealand at the
World Cup 20/20 championship.
Cornwall
represented the Central Districts region in
The National Club Finals in the 2001/02 season.
Currently
Mitchell McClennaghan, George Worker and Brad
Patton are members of Central District Stag
Team and represented NZ in the national Emerging
Player team Vs England in 2009
