CORNWALL
TEAMS WIN FINALS
On Saturday 27th March at Nelson Park
in Napier, the Clubs Premier and Third
grade teams won their grade finals in
the HBCA 1 day competitions.
The Premier team beat Havelock Nth by
96 runs with standout performances from
James Campbell from the Bath CC in England,
Central Districts player - Brad Patton,
and Jacob Smith, all dominating the teams
batting. Superb bowling from Andrew Douglas,
Jacob Smith and Jono Hall, backed up by
excellent fielding saw the Cornwall team
home to a comfortable victory.
The Third Grade side beat Tech Old Boys
by 4 wickets in a close well fought match
in the 37th over.Vinod Naik and Richard
Corbin scored 39 & 50 respectively,
while Mike Wakefield and Vinod Naik bowled
the team to victory.
The Club's Fourth grade 'Oaks' team also
made the finals against Tamatea. Alas
they lost by 42 runs. The Club had 3 teams
in 4 grade finals - a great effort. The
ensuring Cornwall Prizegiving on same
evening was a successful way to end a
memorable day.
Cornwall CC has won the HBCA Trophy for
the strongest Club over all grades in
Hawkes Bay.

has increased its number of Junior teams.
Now we have under 14 Girls team and a
second under 16 Boys team.

Under
14 Club schoolgirls team. This is our
debut season with Ray Mettrick as Team
Manager and Penny Wiggins as Coach. 10
of our side live in Central Hawkes Bay
so some games are in Waipukurau. They
have beaten teams from Woodford House,
Havelock Intermediate and lost on last
ball against Iona College. They will be
attending the HBCA Riverbend Camp in January.
This is the Club’s seventh Junior
team. Thanks to Ray Mettrick For finding
the players and arranging games. |
